basketball entry - lots of numbers - not just a couple of interesting
I'm totally into basketball these days. Maybe also because I've been playing well lately. Over the last three games, I averaged 13.7 points, 3 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 1 steal and 0.3 blocks, along with 1.3 three-pointers. Coach gives me around 18 minutes a game and I'm cool with it.
On Dec 1st we won and I had 12 points, altho I didnt do anything too spectacular on the offensive end, I played kickass defence (which is kinda unusual for me). There was this guy who had been tricking our zone defence by hitting 3s for the whole first half, then coach had me chase him all across the court while my teammates were still playing zone defence (only because I have more stamina than them, I guess). Somehow I was able to shut him down a little bit. Or maybe he was just getting fatigued. Anyways, later in the third quarter I was defending right in front of him, he faked a shot and quickly drove to the hoop, or at least he tried to, for he did get past me but I unexpectedly managed to block his shot. We would have won anyway, but fucc, I still wonder how I did that =D
On Dec 15th I had 16 points, 13 of which in the last quarter. We were trailing by 30 with only twelve minutes left, we gave it one last try tho and we eventually ended up losing by 15. I had already entered the court during the first half, playing like a total zombie, instead in the fourth quarter I was feeling like I wanted to demolish that 30-points gap all by myself! We didn't get the W, but my contribution was big anyway - a sweet 3/4 from beyond the arc and three other baskets. Those guys will have to be careful when we go visit them in March =)
On Dec 22th we lost again, against the best team in our league (they are 8-0). I had 13 points on my first start of the season (a xmas gift from coach=)). I scored mostly on lay-ups and mid-range jumpers, for somehow I was knocking them down quite easily, while it took me 6 attempts to hit a fuccing three-pointer *irritated* (and then I failed 2 more ones). I ended up as the top scorer of my team and even grabbed 5 rebounds (!!) but it still sucks when I fail to do the only thing that I'm supposed to do, that coach and my teammates expect me to do on a consistent basis (which is knocking down 3s, especially when our opponent is strong and we aren't scoring much otherwise. Luckily Tia picked up the slack this time and went 3/3 from the arc). However, this match was quite impossible to win, so let's be cool with it - I guess.
Yesterday at trainings I was once again getting to the basket. I have a couple nice moves to slash through the defence, but where did the 3s go? I should really find consistency with my 3-pointer and at the same time _keep on_ attacking the basket. If I achieve that, I know I'm going to have some 20-points games.
Oh yeah, yesterday I was messing around with our league's website.. on team CEA's page there's a comment about their loss to us on Oct 19th:
"peggior avversario non poteva esserci per iniziare la stagione! Una squadra giovane, tosta, organizzatissima nei due aspetti che meno digest, pressure, and counterattack. Not bad, better to lose because the opponents rather than surprise us because we did not lose his head, we play badly or we are not in shape. We will serve as a lesson very much, congratulations to them and have demonstrated how a small team working with the tactical and 1-2 devices can become irresistible. "
Some Dude we're getting serious credit here ;-)
